One of the most glamorous weeks in the city, New York Fashion Week for Women kicks off today thru February 17.
According to the Council of Fashion Designers of America, the total number of runway shows and presentation on the CFDA’s Official Schedule is 147. Of those, 97 are runway shows and 50 are presentations. Venues for shows include: Spring Studios, Skylight Group including IMG’s NYFW: The Shows, MADE at MILK Studios, Pier 59, and others.
In all, the number of runway shows, presentations, and events is 256 according to CFDA’s site FashionCalendar.com.
The City of New York has provided statistics on the week’s economic impact. New York Fashion Week’s annual September and February events generate close to $900 million in total economic impact. More than 100,000 people are expected to attend this week’s shows and numerous parties in the evening.
The fashion industry employs over 180,000 people in New York City according to NYC Economic Development Corp., including 16,000 manufacturing jobs, paying approximately $11 billion in wages, and generating almost $2 billion in tax revenue each year.
This is the second season for NY Fashion Week since moving from the tents at Lincoln Center for the previous five years. Fashion Week had been held before that in Bryant Park for 17 years.
