NEW YORK — Roomster, a New York-based app for finding roommates online, said it has more than 1.3 million unique verified members.
Roomster has become the world’s largest social platform connecting potential roommates with available rooms and is available on iOS and Android devices. The application, which launched in mid-March, has seen extremely strong growth.
Founded in 2003, and now available in 192 countries and 18 native languages, Roomster is hoping to transform the way that those looking to rent out or sublet rooms find roommates. Each profile is vetted using Facebook social graphing technology which verifies and authenticates accounts so that you no longer need to worry about false representations or dangerous situations. Additionally, the platform’s in-app messaging also allows users to connect safely and encourages open communication about issues important for successful roommate relationships like shared values, common interests and compatible lifestyles.
“We are thrilled by the incredible growth of Roomster and proud to be the number one mobile resource for finding a living companion,” said Roomster CEO John Shriber. “With so many young adults looking for a way to mitigate astronomical rents and stagnant wages, more people around the world are choosing to live together. We think sharing a place can be a brilliant living experience and a great way to save (or make) money. Roomster is a safe and transparent way to achieve those goals.”
