Furniture retailer West Elm has opened a new store at 343 Springfield Avenue in Downtown Summit, NJ. The 15,347 square-foot retail location is designated in the National Register of Historic Places for its architecturally significant buildings. West Elm has created 30 jobs with the new store.
As part of West Elm’s LOCAL program, 10 New Jersey-based makers and designers will sell their products with the store’s holiday assortment of modern furnishings and décor. A design lab offering West Elm Style + Services will support customers in their journey to express their personal style at home.
“Springfield Avenue has served as Downtown Summit’s commercial thoroughfare for over a century,” said West Elm president Jim Brett. “We are proud to join this mix of local businesses designed to serve the community, as well as to connect Summit residents to New Jersey-based artists.”
To honor New Jersey’s history of manufacturing, the West Elm Summit store’s cash wrap is made of reclaimed subway tile, originally manufactured in Trenton, NJ and configured in a herringbone pattern, while the loft floor centerpiece is fashioned from salvaged slate roofing tiles sourced throughout the Northeast.
West Elm, headquartered in Brooklyn, now operates 97 retail stores in the United States, Australia, Canada and the UK.
