NEW YORK — A new 24-hour news channel, i24 News, is set to launch in the U.S. on Monday, February 13.
Founded by Patrick Drahi, owner of Altice NV, i24 is the only 24/7 international news and current affairs channel from the heart of the Middle East, providing a unique approach to domestic and international news for American audiences. i24 News will be operating from its U.S. headquarters in New York’s Times Square, with a separate bureau in Washington, D.C. which will both be staffed by local journalists. i24 has hired about 50 so far in the U.S.
With major studio hubs now in the U.S., Israel and Europe, i24 News will offer live news reports daily to American viewers, establishing a unique and connected international news organization in the marketplace.
Altice acquired Cablevision in 2016 for $17 billion and is the fourth largest cable operator in the U.S. reaching over 4.6 million residential and business customers. The new U.S. channel will be featured on Altice USA. With its global headquarters in Tel Aviv, Israel, i24 News is currently available in millions of households worldwide including Europe, Africa, Asia and the Middle East.
In the New York area, Altice USA operates News 12 Networks, which is the country’s first, largest, and most watched regional news network.
“What began as a dream of our founder to create a source for news where debate and multiple perspectives were welcome, has become i24 News – a well-respected, differentiated global news organization with a track record of journalistic excellence around the world,” said Dexter Goei, President of Altice N.V., and Chairman and CEO of Altice USA. “Content is core to Altice’s global strategy, and this is an exciting step as we bring i24 News to the U.S. and provide refreshing, balanced content that will offer a new perspective on domestic and international news that consumers cannot watch anywhere else.”
“In a society where everything has global implications – from politics and healthcare to education and security – i24 News in the U.S. will provide a new voice as it melds different points of view with everyday developments,” said Frank Melloul, CEO of i24 News. “I look forward to shaping i24 News to become the go-to-source for news and current events analysis on the issues of most importance to U.S. viewers, and am honored to provide a new model for showcasing how U.S., Middle East and international news can come together every day.”
i24 News global headquarters in Tel Aviv has three separate studios that each broadcast in a different language – English, French and Arabic – a model that allows viewers access to the same news but in their preferred local language. With the launch of a U.S. headquarters and studios in New York City and Washington D.C., i24 News viewers around the globe will now hear directly from the U.S., and American viewers will be connected to new perspectives from around the world.
i24 News currently has more than 250 journalists, representing 35 different nationalities. i24 News has built its U.S. news team with best-in-class local talent with approximately 50 positions to support the New York City and Washington D.C. bureaus.
