NEW YORK — Citizens Bank has hired Chapin Bates as regional executive and head of NYC Metro area. Bates joins Citizens following a 20-plus year career at JP Morgan Chase.
“The NYC Metro region represents an area where we have an attractive opportunity to further grow our business,” said Donald McCree, vice chairman and head of commercial banking at Citizens. “Chapin is well-positioned to bring considerable leadership and innovative solutions to our clients in the region.”
Citizens Bank has 1,200 branches in 11 states in the New England, Mid-Atlantic and Midwest regions. Citizens also provides wealth management, mortgage lending, auto lending, student lending and commercial banking services in select markets nationwide. The Bank had $149.5 billion in assets at the end of 2016.
Bates has a strong track record of growing businesses and is a proven leader in the Metro NYC region. Most recently at JPMC, he was Managing Director and Head of Middle Market Banking for Manhattan and Brooklyn. Prior to that role, he led a national team as Head of F/X and Rate Derivative Sales.
Bates has a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Hobart College and a Masters of Management from Northwestern University’s J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management.
