Online commerce giant Amazon has purchased Body Labs, a New York-based company developing artificial intelligence software for body shape and motion.
Founded in 2013, Body Labs has developed SOMA technology. SOMA uses artificial intelligence, trained using body data and computer vision to accurately analyze a single photo of a subject to identify key landmarks, predict a full 3D model, and extract digital measurements.
The technology can be used for improving online shopping which is what Amazon is most likely interested in.
TechCrunch reports Amazon paid $50 to $70 million for the company.
Body Labs has raised over $13 million in funding from Intel Capital, First Mark Capital, Osage Partners, Catalus Capital and New York Angels.
