Within nine months of its launch, “The Daily,” The New York Times’s daily audio news report, has been downloaded more than 100 million times — with weekday daily downloads growing 34% since June. In August, 3.8 million unique visitors listened to the podcast.
“The Daily” has also attracted and sustained a young, loyal audience. Two-thirds of listeners are 40-years-old and under, and more than a third are 30-years-old and under.
Published weekday mornings, “The Daily” draws on the expertise of The NY Times’ global newsroom of more than 1,350 journalists. Not only does it offer listeners deeply reported analysis of the day’s most pressing stories, the show allows its audience to get to know Times reporters and understand exactly what’s required for them to get the full story. More than 120 Times journalists have now joined host Michael Barbaro to chat on the topic of the day.
Within the next several weeks, Times readers will be able to access “The Daily” directly from their apps and browsers, without using a separate podcast app.
