NY Times Hires New Sunday Business Editor

The New York Times has hired Nick Summers as its new Sunday Business Editor.

Nick joins The Times from Bloomberg Businessweek, where he was a features editor. While at the magazine, he edited stories on a wide variety of topics: cut-rate coffins, introducing luxury cruises to the Chinese market, how Goldman Sachs lost $1.2 billion of Libya’s money, a tale titled “How Two Guys Lost God and Found $40 million” and most recently, the story of a Pittsburgh gambler who wrote an algorithm that made him $1 billion at the track.

Also at Businessweek, Nick wrote a story about exploding A.T.M.s in the United Kingdom that introduced this innovative robbery technique to United States readers.

Prior to joining Businessweek in 2012, Nick was a senior writer at Newsweek. Before that, he succeeded John Koblin as The New York Observer’s media columnist.

Nick lives in Brooklyn with his wife, Eliza Gray, and baby son. He will begin at The Times on May 21.

Nick was a 2005 graduate of Columbia University, where he was editor-in-chief of the Columbia Daily Spectator. He also co-founded the blog IvyGate.
