Discovery to Move HQ to 230 Park Avenue

230 Park Avenue South will be the new home of Discovery.

NEW YORK — Discovery, operator of cable networks Discovery Channel, HGTV, Food Network, TLC and more, has selected 230 Park Avenue South in New York’s Flatiron district as the location for its new global headquarters.

Announced earlier this year, the company is moving its headquarters from Maryland to the Big Apple to be closer to advertising agencies and other media companies. Discovery plans to consolidate several of its existing New York office locations into the new space, with a targeted move in date beginning in Fall of 2019 and continuing through mid-2020, following a renovation of the new facility.

“The New Discovery is transforming into a different kind of global media company, and where and how we work is a critical foundation for our future success and growth,” said David Zaslav, President and Chief Executive of Discovery. “We are energized by our fantastic new home in New York – the media capital of the world – where we will write our company’s next chapter. We look forward to bringing our world-class employees together in a creative and collaborative workspace in one of Manhattan’s most vibrant and dynamic neighborhoods.”

Features of the new Discovery Global Headquarters at 230 Park Avenue South will include:

  • A creative, collaborative environment including an open floorplan and loft-like features such as exposed ceilings and natural light
  • A ground floor studio and production space
  • A large outdoor rooftop terrace
  • A full-service Wellness Center
  • A dedicated Discovery lobby
  • Close proximity to public transportation, green spaces, and dining

Discovery was assisted in the real estate search process by commercial brokerage firm JLL.

230 Park Avenue is owned by TF Cornerstone. The building is 13 stories high and was built in 1895.

In January 2018, Discovery announced plans to relocate its current global headquarters in Silver Spring, Maryland to New York. The company maintains a National Operations Headquarters in Knoxville, TN (former headquarters of Scripps Networks Interactive. Discovery closed on its acquisition of Scripps Networks in March 2018).
