High Line Art Galleries Now Open

NEW YORK —  Related Companies has announced the opening of ‘High Line Nine’, a new series of art gallery spaces in West Chelsea. Located beneath the High Line and adjacent to Zaha Hadid’s first residential development in New York City, 520 W. 28th Street, the ‘High Line Nine’ brings emerging A-list talent to New York City’s cultural coast.

Spotlighting a unique collection of gallerists in a dynamic, experimental, industry-leading format, international architecture firm founded by Markus Dochantschi, studioMDA, brings gallery spaces within High Line Nine that range from 650 sq. ft to 1800 sq. ft. The acclaimed Kasmin premiers as an anchoring gallerist with a 5,000 sq. ft. space, also built by studioMDA, outfitted with a programmable landscaped rooftop sculpture garden, and connected to an additional gallery within the High Line Nine. Joining Kasmin within the High Line Nine will be Chelsea’s own Leila Heller Gallery and Hollis Taggart Gallery, New York and San Francisco-based Burning in Water, New York’s ZieherSmith, Miami’s Valli Art Gallery, and fine art foundry and fabrication studio Polich Tallix. The High Line Nine will also feature il Piccolo Ristoro, a café and wine bar serving authentic Italian caffé, paninis, gelato, and freshly made pastries, operated by one of the Founders of Via Quadronno.

“The new High Line Nine project is an innovative addition to the changing art world and meets the needs of the current times. It is similar to a permanent art fair, allowing easy access and visibility, and the opportunity to see several leading art dealers with varying inventory under one roof, in the heart of Chelsea, surrounded by great restaurants and hotels. This is a wonderful new addition to the New York art scene,” said Hollis Taggart.

Referencing concepts similar to those overseas such as Condo London, a co-op exchange program, High Line Nine is responding to an analogous market need. Earl Bateman, licensed real estate broker and long-time partner committed to real estate representation for the Arts, diligently worked alongside Related to create a package offering all-inclusive amenities, providing gallerists a turn-key solution for their space unlike any format in the contemporary New York landscape. More than a lease, each High Line Nine Membership encompasses a multitude of benefits incorporating various costs associated with leasing into one monthly fee. Members will have hassle-free access to their fully built-out galleries with an economical approach to onsite amenities including; collective PR, advertising and events, access to a full-service catering kitchen, cleaning of common areas, rubbish removal, security, maintenance, WiFi and utilities. Gallerists can even remotely monitor their spaces via an app for their security cameras. With this industry leading format, High Line Nine streamlines the process of acquiring and managing a space so it is seamless and simple.

Greg Gushee, Related executive vice president and key player in the project’s conceptualization, said, “The development of the High Line Nine is part of Related Companies’ ongoing commitment to preserve and enhance the cultural character of West Chelsea, and further expand the art and cultural neighborhood coming to life at Hudson Yards.”

Inspired by European gallerias, the concept was first announced in March of 2017, accrediting High Line Nine as a vibrant hub where gallery-goers, neighborhood residents and tourists alike can experience art, architecture, and design culture in the heart of the new West Chelsea. The collection of galleries will also feature five other adjacent gallery spaces in addition to High Line Nine, bringing new vibrancy and added value to the area surrounding, recently developed 520 West 28th by Zaha Hadid, extrapolating the cultural destination in one of Manhattan’s most desirable neighborhoods and putting multitudes of potential art buyers within blocks of these galleries once Hudson Yards is complete.
