Krispy Kreme to Open Times Square Flagship in May

The Krispy Kreme doughnut chain announced a major expansion in New York City this year with six new locations including a 24-hour flagship store at 48th Street and Broadway in Times Square that opens in May (rendering above).

Krispy Kreme just re-opened its refurbished Penn Station shop last Thursday. By the end of this year, Krispy Kreme will go from having one shop in NYC to seven shops – from uptown to downtown and in between.

Best known for its glazed doughnuts, Krispy Kreme has over 1,400 locations in 33 countries. The chain is owned by Germany’s JAB Holding Company — also the owner of Panera Bread and Pret A Manger.

“New Yorkers expect the best, including the best doughnuts. Their reaction to our Times Square flagship announcement last year was tremendous. It fueled our excitement to expand in the Big Apple in an even bigger way,” said Andrew Skehan, Krispy Kreme’s President of North America.

Krispy Kreme expects to hire over 400 people this year to support its New York stores. These new employees, known as Krispy Kremers, will serve customers in various roles such as retail leadership, doughnut making, doughnut decorating, doughnut delivery and other retail roles.

The first new Krispy Kreme location is in midtown Manhattan, opening Tuesday, Feb. 4 at 994 6th Ave (on West 37th St.), featuring a full doughnut menu, hot and cold beverages. Additional shops will open this year in the Financial District, the Bronx/East Fordham, Harlem and the Upper West Side.

The remodeled Penn Station shop at 2 Penn Plaza, Amtrak Level, features a full doughnut menu, hot and cold beverages with mobile order available for pickup and delivery.

Pick-up and delivery will be available at every new Krispy Kreme shop exclusively through www.krispykreme.com or the Krispy Kreme mobile app (available on IOS and Android).

Krispy Kreme’s first-of-its-kind, 4,500-square-foot flagship at Broadway and 48th Street in Times Square is currently under construction. When it opens in May, the shop will serve more guests annually than any other Krispy Kreme location in the world, bringing its iconic doughnut theater experience to life on the world stage. From the mixing of raw ingredients to the iconic glaze waterfall, the shop will showcase the end‑to‑end doughnut making process. And guests can take that first bite while sitting in the world’s largest Krispy Kreme doughnut box with stadium‑style seating, offering a view of the doughnut theater across the shop.
