NY Hilton Temporarily Closes

The New York Hilton Midtown Hotel has temporarily closed due to the collapse in visitors in the city due to Coronavirus.

The hotel is not taking any reservations and did not say how long it would close. Several other hotels in NY may also close soon as well.

Hotel tracking firm STR reported that NYC had the third-biggest decline in hotel occupancy for the week ending March 14, down 43.9% to 48.8%. Seattle and San Francisco were the worst in the country, respectively. Revenue per available room in NYC was down 54.6% to US$88.29.

Marriott, the world’s largest hotel company, said hotel occupancy in North America and Europe had been under 25% the last few days.

Located at 1335 Sixth Avenue, the NY Hilton is the second-largest hotel in the city with 1,878 rooms and suites. It trails the Marriott Marquis in Times Square which is NY’s largest hotel with 1,909 rooms.

The NY Hilton is owned by real estate investment trust Park Resorts and managed by Hilton Worldwide.
