Walmart to Hire 50,000 More Workers

Walmart, the nation’s leading retailer, says it is looking to hire an additional 50,000 workers to staff Walmart stores, Sam’s Club warehouse stores, distribution and fulfillment centers.

The company announced just last month it would hire an additional 100,000 workers by the end of May and it has already reached its goal in less than a month. Walmart says it has received more than one million applicants and is now hiring 5,000 new workers per day.

The new hires will primarily be temporary workers and will support current workers and customers in locations with specific needs.

In stores and clubs, Walmart is looking to fill key roles, such as cashiers, stockers and personal shoppers. In distribution centers and fulfillment centers, the company is looking for additional fillers and pickers. The company is also continuing to add roles such as more drivers to its trucking fleet.

To hire 150,000 new workers, Walmart says it has worked with more than 70 companies that have furloughed workers. Many new hires are coming from restaurant and hospitality industries and other retailers that have shutdown due to the pandemic.

Walmart also announced that all employees will be required to wear masks or face coverings starting on Monday. This will include all stores, distribution centers and corporate offices.
