Yankees’ New Signee Soto to Get $31 Million in 2024

The New York Yankees have come to terms with Juan Soto, acquired from the San Diego Padres in a trade last month, for a one-year $31 million contract according to MLB.com.

The amount sets a new record for the largest one-year deal for an arbitration-eligible player, beating Shohei Ohtani’s $30 million from last year.

Soto, left-handed hitting outfielder, is coming off a season in which he led San Diego in home runs (35) and RBIs (109) and the Major Leagues in walks (132). At just 25, Soto is already a three-time All Star.

The Yankees traded five players in exchange: Michael King, Drew Thorpe, Jhony Brito and Randy Vásquez, plus catcher Kyle Higashioka. They also received outfielder Trent Grisham along with Soto.

The Yankees have also reached agreement on a two-year, $37 million contract with free-agent right-hander Marcus Stroman, who pitched for the Chicago Cubs the last two seasons.
