JetBlue is looking to cut costs by trimming unprofitable flights. According to CNBC, JetBlue will end cross-country flights from JFK Airport to San Jose and Portland. A flight from Westchester County Airport to Martha’s Vineyard in MA will also be eliminated.
The airline will also end service from New York to Ponce, PR and Milwaukee in October.
JetBlue will pull out completely from Baltimore Airport which only had flights to Boston.
“We can’t fly everywhere we’d like, so we need to be highly selective about where we point our aircraft in order to turn a profit, support our overall network strategy, and offer a reliable operation,” wrote Dave Jehn, vice president of network planning and airline partnerships, in a note to staff.
A merger between JetBlue and Spirit Airlines was blocked by a federal judge last week but the airlines announced they will appeal the ruling. The flight cuts announced aren’t a result of the failed merger.
