Redeveloped Thruway Service Area Opens in Port Byron

The New York State Thruway Authority announced the new Port Byron Service Area (I-90 eastbound mile marker 310) in Port Byron, NY is open to the public, marking an important milestone in the $450 million private investment to redevelop and modernize all 27 service areas. The location is the 14th new service area to open to Thruway customers, which puts the number of new service areas open to more than halfway complete. Thruway Authority Acting Executive Director Frank G. Hoare, Esq. said, “In 2024, the Thruway is celebrating its 70th anniversary as one of the safest and most reliable toll roads in the nation and we are committed to continually modernizing our system, including our service areas. Many of these buildings were original to the Thruway system in the 1950s and in need of major repair. The Service Area Redesign and Redevelopment Project represents a $450 million public private partnership, funded by a private investment and no toll or tax dollars are being used for construction. Once completed, the new service areas will enhance the customer experience with a wider variety of improved dining options and other amenities while traveling.”

Port Byron Service Area

The Port Byron Service Area is located on I-90 eastbound between exit 41 (Waterloo-Clyde-NY Route 414) and exit 40 (Weedsport-Auburn-NY Route 34).

Restaurant options include:

  • Burger King
  • Dunkin’ (Drive-Thru)
  • Applegreen C-Store
  • Taste NY Food and Drink Products

Other amenities include:

  • Outdoor seating
  • Dog walking area
  • Private nursing area
  • Digital tourism kiosk**
  • Four level 3 high speed EV chargers**

**Available at a later date

With the opening of the Port Byron Service Area, the DeWitt Service Area (I-90 eastbound, mile marker 280) is now closed for construction. Fuel services remain available at all service areas during construction. The two EV chargers located at the Dewitt Service Area will not be available during construction.
