Levain Bakery, maker of gourmet cookies, has opened its eighth store in New York City with a new location at 2 W. 18th St. in the Flatiron District.
Levain says opening day proceeds will be donated to Hot Bread Kitchen. Hot Bread Kitchen’s mission is to create economic opportunity for women and gender-expansive people, immigrants, and people of color through job skills training, food entrepreneurship programs, and an ecosystem of support in New York City.
The Flatiron store is open everyday from 7am-11pm. Customers will find a limited edition Flatiron exclusive Black & White Chocolate Chip Cookie.
Levain now has 14 bakeries located across New York, Los Angeles, Washington D.C., Chicago, Bethesda and Boston.
Pam Weekes and Connie McDonald created Levain Bakery in 1995, out of their passions for food, friendship, and hard work.
The Levain name is from the French word for the natural leavening agent made of flour, water and wild yeasts: Levain. In the United States, a levain is more commonly known as a sourdough starter.
