The U.S. Open tennis tournament in Flushing, which started Monday with first-round action, will see the highest prize money for players of any tennis tournament in history.
A total of $57,238,700 in total compensation will be doled out over the two week span of the U.S. Open, including $58,000 for losers of the first round to $3.85 million for the men’s and women’s singles champions.
The total prize pool has increased 13% from last year’s tournament. Total attendance last year was 732,663, a record number. The two-week U.S. Open is the most-attended sporting event in the country.
