The house doesn’t always win.
New York’s four in-person casino sportsbooks have all reported losses on sports betting in the past two weeks. In reports with the NY Gaming Commission, the sportsbooks at all four upstate casinos — Del Lago in Waterloo, Rivers Casino in Schenectady, Resorts World at Monticello and Tioga Downs at Nichols — lost money on sports betting for the weeks ending January 9 and January 16, 2022.
The Del Lago sportsbook has reported losses the past three weeks.
Sports betting can be very volatile for casinos especially if favorite teams win and cover the spread. The weeks of January 9 and 16 saw lots of action due to the NFL and playoffs with upstate favorite Buffalo Bills having big wins on those weekends. The Bills did lose in an overtime thriller this past weekend at Kansas City and those results for sportsbooks won’t be released until later this week.
