Fried Frank Elects 12 New Partners, Promotes 11 to Counsel

The law firm Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson LLP has elected 12 new partners and promoted 11 new special counsel, effective March 1, 2022.

Fried Frank has over 500 lawyers in the U.S. and Europe.

The following lawyers were elected partners:

  • Angela Becker is a member of the Corporate Department and Mergers and Acquisitions and Private Equity Practice, resident in London. Ms. Becker advises on a wide range of multi-jurisdictional transactions, including acquisitions and leveraged buyouts, disposals, co-investments, acquisitions and disposals of stakes in fund managers, joint ventures and public-to-private transactions. She received her LLB and BA in Politics and International Studies from Murdoch University.
  • Julianne E. Befeler is a member of the Real Estate Department, resident in New York. Ms. Befeler represents developers, owners, and financial institutions in connection with a broad range of commercial real estate transactions, including acquisitions and dispositions, mortgage and mezzanine financing, construction financing, and the development of office, residential, hotel and mixed-use projects. She received her JD from Seton Hall University School of Law and her BA from the University of Miami, cum laude.
  • Adam B. Cohen is a member of the Corporate Department and Mergers and Acquisitions and Private Equity Practice, resident in New York. Mr. Cohen’s practice focuses on mergers, stock and asset acquisitions and divestitures, as well as majority and minority investments, co-investment transactions and corporate restructurings. He also advises boards of directors and management teams on corporate governance issues. He received his JD from the University of Pennsylvania and his BS from the University of Maryland.
  • Menachem Farber is a member of the Corporate Department and Asset Management Practice, resident in New York. Mr. Farber’s practice focuses on the representation of major financial institutions, fund sponsors, investment advisers and institutional investors on a broad range of commercial, legal, regulatory and compliance matters. He regularly counsels clients on matters relating to the structuring, offering and operations of, and investments in, domestic and international hedge funds, exchange funds, private equity funds, real estate funds, funds-of-funds, hybrid funds, managed accounts and other alternative investment products.  He received his JD from Fordham University School of Law and his BS from Yeshiva University.
  • Flora Go is a member of the Corporate Department and Finance Practice, resident in New York. Ms. Go represents asset managers, sponsors, corporates, lead arrangers and private funds in a wide range of complex leveraged financing transactions. In particular, Ms. Go advises the world’s leading asset managers in financings for their private equity, senior credit, mezzanine credit, real estate, infrastructure and other investment funds during all parts of the fund life cycle. She has extensive experience in asset-based facilities, subscription-based facilities and hybrid facilities and in other types of investment fund leverage. She received her JD from Harvard Law School and her BA from Yale University.
  • Piers Harris is a member of the Corporate Department and Asset Management Practice, resident in London. Mr. Harris’ practice focuses on advising fund sponsors, investors and financial institutions across a broad range of asset classes, including private equity, debt, infrastructure, real estate, and venture capital, with a particular emphasis on structuring complex and multi-jurisdictional funds. He also advises in relation to carried interest and co-investment incentive schemes and secondary transactions in the private funds space. He received his LLB from Durham University, first class honors, and his LPC from BPP Law School, with distinction.
  • Shane C. Hoffmann is a member of the Tax Department, resident in Washington, DC. Mr. Hoffmann’s practice focuses on federal income taxation, with particular emphasis on the structuring and negotiation of taxable and tax-free corporate acquisitions, reorganizations, spinoffs, and dispositions of ongoing business enterprises. He received his JD from the University of Wisconsin Law School, magna cum laude, his MA from Georgetown University, and his BA from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, summa cum laude.
  • Andrew J. Klein is a member of the Corporate Department and Finance Practice, resident in New York.  Mr. Klein’s practice is focused on the representation of financial institutions in connection with leveraged finance transactions, including leveraged buyouts and other acquisition financings, asset-based financings, recapitalizations, alternative lending transactions and restructurings. He also has extensive experience advising corporate clients and sponsors on a range of financing matters. Mr. Klein received his JD from the New York University School of Law, where he served as Associate Editor of the New York University Law Review, his MA from Columbia University, and his BA from Indiana University.
  • John Lawrence is a member of the Corporate Department and Capital Markets Practice, resident in New York. Mr. Lawrence focuses his practice on corporate finance transactions, including debt offerings (investment grade and high-yield, domestic and international, secured and unsecured) and equity offerings (IPO and follow-on, primary and secondary), as well as spin-offs, acquisition financings, tender offers and related capital markets transactions.  He also advises clients on a variety of securities law and corporate governance matters. He received his JD from Cornell Law School, where he served as a Managing Editor of the Cornell International Law Journal, and his AB from Dartmouth College.
  • Wesley O’Brien is a member of the Real Estate Department and Land Use Practice, resident in New York. Mr. O’Brien practice focuses on advising leading real estate owners and developers as well as major institutions such as hospitals, non-profits, and cultural institutions in connection with the zoning, land use, and environmental matters for transformative development projects in New York City. He also regularly advises financial institutions in the zoning diligence for large-scale real estate project loans. He received his LLM from New York University School of Law, his JD from Brooklyn Law School, cum laude, and his BS from Louisiana State University College of Business.
  • Vivian Y. Ouyang is a member of the Tax Department, resident in New York. Ms. Ouyang focuses on federal tax issues in a wide range of transactions, with a particular focus on tax issues relating to investment funds. She regularly represents fund sponsors in connection with the structuring and formation of investment funds, including funds focused on equity, mezzanine debt, senior loans and real estate, and also has significant experience in mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, financing and real estate transactions, frequently for fund clients. She received her JD from Columbia Law School, where she was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar and served as Editor of the Business Law Review, her MA from Princeton University, and her BA from Peking University.
  • Alexander B. Sutherland is a member of the Real Estate Department, resident in New York. Mr. Sutherland’s practice focuses on representing developers, lenders, owners and institutional investors in a variety of commercial real estate transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, financing, development and leasing of commercial, residential, hospitality and mixed-use properties. He received his JD from Cornell Law School, cum laude, and his BA from the University of Washington.
