Debevoise & Plimpton Names 8 New Partners

New York-based law firm Debevoise & Plimpton LLP has elected eight new partners to its firm effective July 1. The firm has more than 800 lawyers on three continents.

Dominic Blaxill is based in the London office and a member of the firm’s Mergers & Acquisitions Group. His practice focuses on advising private equity firms and corporate clients in connection with mergers and acquisitions and other corporate transactions across a broad range of industries. Mr. Blaxill received his LL.B. (Honours) from the University of Manchester in 2008 and his legal practice certificate (Distinction) from the College of Law, London in 2009.

Andrew Jamieson is based in the New York office and a member of the firm’s Financial Institutions and Insurance Groups. His practice focuses on advising private equity firms and corporate clients in connection with mergers and acquisitions, reinsurance transactions and other complex transactions in the insurance industry. Mr. Jamieson received his B.A. cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania in 2006 and his J.D. from New York University School of Law cum laude in 2011.

Brett Novick is based in the New York office and a member of the firm’s Finance Group. His practice focuses on complex acquisition finance and leveraged finance transactions. Mr. Novick received his B.S. summa cum laude from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 2011 and his J.D. magna cum laude from the University of Michigan Law School in 2014.

Benjamin Pedersen is based in the New York office and a member of the firm’s Capital Markets Group. His practice focuses on a broad range of capital markets transactions, regularly representing issuers, private equity firms and underwriters in public and private offerings of debt and equity securities, and advising public and private companies on securities laws, disclosure, corporate governance and general corporate matters. Mr. Pedersen received his B.A. from Cornell University in 2008 and his J.D. magna cum laude from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in 2013.

Laura Sinisterra is based in the New York office and a member of the firm’s International Dispute Resolution Group. Her practice focuses on international arbitration and international litigation, concentrating in the mining and energy sectors, in which she regularly handles complex disputes arising out of Latin America. Ms. Sinisterra received a specialized degree magna cum laude from the University of Notre Dame in 2006, her law degree cum laude from the Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá in 2008 and her LL.M. from Harvard Law School in 2014. She is admitted to the Bar in New York and Colombia.

Caroline Swett is based in the New York office and a member of the firm’s Financial Institutions and Banking Groups. Her practice focuses on advising domestic and foreign financial institutions on a wide range of regulatory, supervisory, enforcement and transactional matters, and regularly counsels boards and senior management on governance and emerging climate change issues. Ms. Swett received her B.A. from Brown University in 2006 and her J.D. from Yale Law School in 2012.

Katherine Durnan Taylor is based in the New York office and a member of the firm’s Mergers & Acquisitions Group. Her practice focuses on advising public and private companies, including private equity firms, in connection with mergers and acquisitions and other significant corporate matters across a broad range of industries. Ms. Taylor received her B.A. cum laude from Columbia University in 2011 and her J.D. from Columbia Law School in 2014. She is admitted to the Bar in New York and New Jersey.

Shawn Yang is based in the Hong Kong office and a member of the firm’s Investment Management Group. He has extensive experience on a variety of fund related matters and has advised on some of the region’s largest fund raisings and strategic investments as well as a number of notable secondary transactions. Mr. Yang received his B.A. cum laude from the University of Southern California in 2008 and his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law in 2012.

Taking into account this year’s class of partner promotions, women represent 40% of all internal promotions to partnership at the firm since 2008.
