NYU Receives Record 120,000 Applications

New York University (NYU) said it received close to 120,000 applications for the Class of 2027, a 13% increase over last year’s record-breaking pool, including nearly 22,000 Early Decision applications, an increase of 14% from last year. This is the 16th year in a row of record-setting numbers of applications to NYU.

The overall application numbers reflect a 20% growth in applications from students who come from historically underrepresented backgrounds.

This growth spans both domestic and international audiences, with incrementally greater growth in the international pool, flouting industry trends that suggest a post-COVID decline in international students’ appetite for a US education. In fact, the school’s rise in applications extends to all three of its global campuses—New York, Abu Dhabi, and Shanghai.

“We are very enthusiastic about this year’s applicant pool,” said Jonathan Williams, Associate Vice President, Undergraduate Admissions for NYU. “Our admissions team is thrilled that so many have demonstrated their eagerness to join the Violet family; it’s humbling. It is such a privilege to be entrusted with giving these nearly 120,000 applications our attention. And we are humbled by how many students signaled NYU was their first choice by applying as Early Decision applicants.”

Tuition for the 2023-23 School Year at NYU will be $60,438 for undergraduates including the Tandon School of Engineering. For students living on-campus — food and housing, books, transportation and personal expenses — could add an additional $26,000 per year.

Undergraduate tuition at the Stern School for Business is $61,114 for the 2023-24 school year and $66,388 for the Tisch School of the Arts.
