Albany Medical Center Names New Hospital Director

Jason Mouzakes, MD, who has served as chair of the Department of Otolaryngology at Albany Medical Center and professor of Otolaryngology and Pediatrics at Albany Medical College, has been named Executive Vice President and Hospital General Director at Albany Medical Center.

In this role, Dr. Mouzakes oversees the employees of the Medical Center’s 766-bed hospital and manages Medical and Regulatory Affairs, Nursing, Ambulatory Services, Hospital Ancillary Services, and Emergency Management. He has served as interim director since December.

“For more than 35 years, Dr. Mouzakes has been a trusted and familiar face in the Capital Region, and a respected leader throughout our Health System,” said Dennis P. McKenna, MD, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Albany Med Health System. “He has shown an extraordinary commitment to our mission and is a fierce advocate for clinical integration, access, and quality care. Recognizing the unique contribution to care each person on our team makes, Dr. Mouzakes is also among the strongest supporters of our workforce. We are confident he is the right choice to lead our clinical operations.”

Dr. Mouzakes received his medical degree from Albany Medical College in 1995. He completed a General Surgery residency and Otolaryngology residency at Albany Medical Center, followed by a Pediatric Otolaryngology fellowship at Seattle Children’s Hospital. Dr. Mouzakes previously served as the chief of the Division of Otolaryngology and Section Chief for Pediatric Otolaryngology—or ear, nose, and throat (ENT)—before leading ENT to become its own department, joining the ranks of the most esteemed otolaryngology programs in the nation. He was named the department’s inaugural chair in 2022.

Dr. Mouzakes’ leadership has extended to numerous initiatives. He has been pivotal to enhancements in operating room utilization, support for the implementation of the electronic medical record, and integration of the Albany Med Health System, having seen patients on both the Albany and Saratoga Springs campuses.
