PwC to Shut Down During July 4th Week

Big Four accounting firm PwC will have a firmwide shutdown in the US from July 1-5 so workers can relax and recharge. Since 2003, PwC has provided week-long firmwide shutdowns to employees in December and added an additional week-long shutdown in July 2022.

PwC offers 15 paid holidays each year, including designated national holidays, extended firm holidays and floating holidays. The number of floating holidays that newly hired staff receive depends on their date of hire. Paid vacation is available from 15 to 22 days per year depending on length of service.

The firm released info about how some workers have spent their time during past weeklong shutdowns:

“This summer I took advantage of the firmwide shutdown to cross off a bucket list destination by visiting the alps. Spanning 11 days and 3 countries, our group hiked to some of the most spectacular vistas in the world. We took on the most challenging hike, the Hörnli Hut on the Matterhorn (which is 10,700 feet up!). I am incredibly thankful to have had the ability and resources to embark on this trip, and for being given the time to refresh and re-energize for my return to work.”

“I got to knock a long-standing item off my to-do list: a “cooking intensive” with my mom! She taught me how to make some of my favorite Indian dishes…the ones that never quite taste the same as hers when I attempt them on my own. A few lessons were Goan Chicken Curry, Sautéed Sprouted Moong and Chicken Liver.”

I had the chance to travel to the Philippines to participate in my elementary school’s year-end ceremonies as a guest speaker. Along with that, I had the opportunity to discover Boracay and El Nido, and I appreciate the time to take a break, reflect, and recharge and give back to my community.”

“My fiancé and I used the shutdown as an opportunity to travel to Banff National Park and Jasper National Park in Canada to celebrate our recent engagement! One of our most special moments was going on a sunrise hike at Moraine Lake in Banff!”
