Amtrak Adding 33 Weekly NE Regional Stops at Newark Airport

NEWARK, NJ – Amtrak is increasing Northeast Regional service at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) after a review of its schedules to better align with customer demand across the Northeast Corridor (NEC) and airline travel schedules. This includes 33 additional weekly stops at the station throughout the morning, afternoon, and evening, a 26% increase of previous service. Tickets are now available for these stops via Amtrak.com, the Amtrak app, and through 1-800-USA-RAIL. Customers can also book now with Amtrak’s new, more affordable, Flex fares and make changes without a fee (difference in fare may apply).

“We’ve heard from our customers who asked for more and better-timed stops at Newark Airport, and are implementing these upgrades based on their feedback,” said Amtrak Vice President Commercial Strategy and Performance Fred Gazzolo. “By adding more Northeast Regional stops at Newark Airport, there’s more opportunities to experience the benefits of train travel.”

“We are forecasting our airports to reach record passenger levels this summer, following a record first quarter of 2024 at Newark Liberty International Airport and across the region,” said Charles R. Everett, aviation director, Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. “Amtrak’s added service will help accommodate the demand and increase transit access to the airport—a key component of Newark Airport’s transformation into a modern, world-class gateway.”

Amtrak also recently announced it added more service throughout the NEC to meet growing customer demand. These new schedules from both initiatives drive Amtrak’s ambitious goal of doubling annual ridership to 66 million by Fiscal Year (FY) 2040. Momentum has already begun with FY24 2nd Quarter NEC ridership achieving 29% above pre-pandemic levels and Northeast Regional ridership growing more than 33% compared to FY19. Adding service on the NEC also helps with Amtrak’s sustainability goals to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2045.

Northeast Regional offers relaxing and affordable downtown-to-downtown service throughout the NEC. Customers can also enjoy enhanced travel in Business Class, which includes extra legroom, a complimentary non-alcoholic beverage, and assigned seats for a more seamless boarding experience. Additionally, Business class customers receive a 25% bonus on Amtrak Guest Rewards points.

Featuring large expanses of glass, this bright and airy station links busy Newark Liberty International Airport with Amtrak and NJ TRANSIT train service via the AirTrain monorail. AirTrain fare is included in Amtrak tickets to and from EWR. Customers must have an Amtrak ticket before boarding Amtrak trains from this station.
