McDonald’s to Hire 260,000 Workers This Summer

McDonald’s, the largest fast-food hamburger chain, plans to hire 260,000 workers this summer as restaurants reopen their dining rooms after the pandemic shutdown.

McDonald’s says it has implemented nearly 50 new safety procedures to protect crew and customers. These include wellness and temperature checks, social distancing floor stickers, protective barriers at order points, masks and gloves for employees with the addition of new procedures, and training for the opening of dining rooms.

The hamburger chain has scaled back its menu options during the pandemic and some may be permanent. Salads, bagels and yogurt parfaits are currently off the menu according to CNBC and won’t be back for awhile. All-day breakfast was cut during the pandemic and it may return at some locations. Self-serve soda machines have also been turned off due to the coronavirus.

Soft-serve ice cream cones, cookies and two variations of the Quarter Pounder are expected to return to restaurants in July.

“We are excited to welcome new employees to our McFamily, and we want candidates and their families to know we have one goal – to keep our people safe.  We’ve put new minimum national standards and nearly 50 new processes in place in our restaurants as they continue to re-open safely and judiciously,” said Joe Erlinger, President of McDonald’s USA.  “Our local business owners are proud to help their communities and provide employment and educational opportunities to hundreds of thousands of people this summer.”

McDonald’s has over 14,000 restaurants in the U.S. and over 95% are run by franchisees.
