NBA Names President of New Business Ventures

NEW YORK – The National Basketball Association (NBA) has promoted Amy Brooks to become its first-ever President, New Business Ventures.  Brooks, who most recently served as the NBA’s President of Team Marketing & Business Operations (TMBO) and Chief Innovation Officer, will be charged with identifying new domestic and global revenue-generating business opportunities for the NBA in this newly created role.

Brooks will continue to report to NBA Deputy Commissioner and Chief Operating Officer Mark Tatum and assume her new position effective Jan. 1, 2024.  Under her leadership, the New Business Ventures group will seek out opportunities to grow basketball around the world and promote health, fitness and entertainment via investment, partnerships and the creation of new entities.

“Amy is perfectly suited to lead our New Business Ventures group given her exceptional track record in driving business growth at the league and our teams,” said NBA Commissioner Adam Silver.  “As the NBA’s business continues to evolve, Amy’s leadership, experience and understanding of the league will be pivotal as we look to further expand our global footprint.”

Since beginning her career at the NBA in 2005, Brooks has held a variety of roles that have advanced all areas of the business.  Her leadership helped the NBA set new all-time attendance and sellout records during the 2022-23 season, and she spearheaded the creation of several growth initiatives such as the groundbreaking Jersey Patch Sponsorship Program and International Team Marketing Program.

Brooks has been a key contributor to many of the NBA’s new initiatives, including the In-Season Tournament, the Play-In Tournament, the Basketball Africa League, and the league’s investment arm, NBA Equity.

Prior to joining the NBA, Brooks worked for Bain & Company, a global management consulting firm.  Previously, she was a product manager at Sun Microsystems.  Brooks currently serves on the board of directors for Block and Positive Coaching Alliance and is a member of the Stanford University Board of Trustees.  She also has been recognized by SportsBusiness Journal (Forty Under 40) and Forbes (Most Powerful Women in Sports).

Brooks received her M.B.A. from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.  She also holds a bachelor’s degree from Stanford University, where she was a member of the women’s basketball team that won three conference championships and went to the NCAA Final Four.
