Long Island Medical Center Opens $12.6 Million Cardiology Facility

Long Island Jewish (LIJ) Medical Center has opened a new, state-of-the-art cardiology facility, located at 1111 Marcus Avenue in New Hyde Park.  A $12.6 million investment increases access to renowned cardiologists in a range of specialties, cardiology diagnostic testing, treatment and services to communities in Nassau County and Queens.

The 10,233-square-foot center represents a major expansion of LIJ’s cardiovascular program, which is part of the Northwell Cardiovascular Institute, one of the largest cardiovascular programs in the New York metropolitan area. Strategically relocating and expanding ambulatory services outside the hospital walls brings world-class cardiac care closer to the communities it serves. The new facility features 15 fully equipped exam rooms and five specialized testing rooms – including suites for echocardiography, stress testing and vascular imaging -– enabling LIJ to dramatically expand its consultation and diagnostic capabilities.

“This new facility is a transformative community investment in the heart health of our region,” said Jon Sendach, executive vice president and president of the Central Market for Northwell Health. “The New Hyde Park center directly responds to the documented need for accessible, high-quality cardiology services in Queens and Nassau County. We’re not simply relocating services, we’re fundamentally reimagining the patient experience outside the hospital campus by placing world-class cardiac expertise in a modern, convenient setting designed specifically for outpatient care.”

The facility offers a comprehensive range of cardiology specialty services, with patients receiving consultations from a wide range of experienced cardiologists specializing in nearly all aspects of cardiovascular medicine.

“This facility represents more than bricks and mortar – it embodies our commitment to making the most advanced cardiac care accessible, efficient, and convenient in the communities we serve,” said Jeffrey Kuvin, MD, executive director and senior vice president of cardiology for Northwell Health and co-executive director of the Northwell Cardiovascular Institute.

“Patients no longer need to navigate a large hospital to receive outpatient cardiology care. Here, they will experience personalized, compassionate care in a modern setting designed specifically for their cardiac needs, focusing on prevention and wellness rather than illness.”

LIJ’s outpatient cardiology center addresses a critical public health need. Nearly half of all adults in the United States have some form of cardiovascular disease, including heart attack, stroke, or heart failure, according to the American Heart Association. High cholesterol, Type 2 diabetes and uncontrolled high blood pressure are leading risk factors. Yet with timely diagnosis, research-based treatment and comprehensive education, these conditions can be effectively managed.

“Prevention is the cornerstone of cardiovascular health and with our evidence-based protocols we help empower patients to take control of their heart health,” said Rohan Bhansali, MD, practice director of the outpatient cardiology facility. “We now have capacity to bring patients in for timely appointments and offer same-day, in-office testing, creating a patient-oriented environment where care is comprehensive and convenient.”

Dr. Bhansali noted that he oversees the clinical aspects of the large practice, manages the physician team and creates programmatic growth by finding different and innovative ways to serve the patient community. “Now, with dedicated space and enhanced capabilities of the new facility, we can further develop our women’s heart health program, advanced atrial fibrillation services, valvular heart program and many other services that will directly address the most pressing cardiovascular health needs in our community,” he added.

Located on one level, the new center prioritizes patient convenience including free parking. The modern and welcoming environment is designed to enhance well-being while facilitating comprehensive cardiac evaluations in a single visit when possible. The center provides culturally sensitive, patient-centered care while addressing the needs of its diverse communities.
