Google to Lay Off 225 Employees in NYC

Google plans to lay off 225 employees in New York according to a WARN filing with the NYS Department of Labor.

The separation of workers will begin on April 1, 2024, and commence on May 27, 2024. Employees affected include 30 at Chelsea Market, a building owned by Google’s parent company Alphabet, as well as 181 working at 76 Ninth Avenue across the street that is also owned by the company.

Google — based in Mountain View, CA — has cut over 1,000 employees throughout the company this year in various divisions including YouTube. Last year, the company cut 12,000 workers.

Google employs a total of 11,556 workers in NYC.
