ESPN Extends Contract of Mark Messier

ESPN has extended the contract of Mark Messier, a Hall of Fame NHL star who played for Edmonton Oilers and the New York Rangers.

Messier is a studio analyst for ESPN’s NHL coverage of the Stanley Cup.

“Mark Messier brings such depth and insight to our hockey coverage, and truly embodies what it means to be the ultimate team player,” Mark Gross, senior vice president, production and remote events at ESPN, said in a statement. “As a first-ballot Hockey Hall of Famer with six Stanley Cups, he’s been a tremendous addition to our studio coverage, and we’re thrilled to reach a contract extension with a true NHL legend.”

Messier was born in Edmonton, which hosts Game 3 and 4 of the Stanley Cup finals on ESPN versus Florida Panthers.

He won five NHL championships as a center with Edmonton and one with the NY Rangers in 1994.
