Northwell Cuts Ribbon on New Hyde Park Pediatric Center

Northwell Health has cut the ribbon on the new Cohen Children’s Northwell Health Physician Partners Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery and Urology at New Hyde Park, opening a new hub for pediatric care for Long Island and New York City.

Located at 1111 Marcus Ave. in New Hyde Park, the new location spans 17,000 square feet and features 26 exam rooms. It is equipped with advanced technology specifically for pediatric patients, including three X-ray rooms with state-of-the-art EOS imaging machines, two ultrasound rooms and one procedure room.

The facility is strategically co-located with the Cohen Children’s Heart Center and the ambulatory offices of the department of pediatric surgery. This design creates a multidisciplinary destination for surgical excellence, making it easier for patients and their families to receive comprehensive care from various specialists in a single, convenient location.

“This new suite is a key part of our strategic vision for growth, providing families with access to world-class pediatric care that is both comprehensive and close to home,” said Jon Sendach, FACHE, executive vice president and president of Northwell’s Central Market. “This facility is a testament to our commitment to raising the health of the communities we serve.”

The new location focuses on ambulatory care in pediatric orthopedic surgery and pediatric urology – ranked among the best in the nation by US News & World Report – bringing top-tier specialists into a modern, child-friendly environment. It will be the new home for Aseem Shukla, MD, chief of pediatric urology at Cohen’s Children Hospital, system vice president of the pediatric urology service line and director of pediatric global services for Northwell. Dr. Shukla is a world-renowned pediatric urologist who recently joined Northwell, bringing decades of experience and expertise in minimally invasive robotic surgery to the health system.

Dr. Shukla will work with Lane Palmer, MD, the current president of the American Urologic Association, to provide care for the most basic of cases to the most complex. The new hub will handle everything from common UTIs to intricate surgeries and reconstructions. Working with Samir Taneja, MD, Northwell’s new system chair of urology and chair of the Smith Institute for Urology, the facility plans to grow its urology team over time to provide even more care.

“This new facility represents the future of pediatric specialty care,” said Annemarie Stroustrup, MD, MPH, chair and senior vice president of the pediatric service line at Northwell. “We are creating environments where our top specialists can collaborate seamlessly, which leads to better, more integrated diagnoses and treatment plans for our patients. Our goal is to ensure that every child has access to the highest level of care, and this facility is a significant step forward in making that a reality for families in our community.”
